Frank Gehrke, chief of the California Cooperative Snow Surveys Program, will begin the survey at 11 a.m.

just off Highway 50 near Sierra-at-Tahoe Road, about 90 miles east of Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO - The Department of Water Resources (DWR) conducts five manual snow surveys at Phillips Station in the Sierra Nevada from around the first of January through May each calendar year.

The snowpack's water content usually peaks around April 1, after which the sun's higher position in the sky contributes to rapid melting and a diminished snowpack.

SACRAMENTO - With every monthly measurement of the California snowpack this winter, the state's rebound from the previous five years of drought becomes more evident.

During this time DWR will host a workshop and a Skype meeting to review application requirements.

Workshop details are listed on the program webpage. The 90-day application period closes January 29, 2018, and applications are due no later than PM on January 29, 2018.
